
MAINE COONS
Maine Coons originated in the U.S. State of Maine (where it is the official state cat), and they are one of the oldest natural breeds in North America. Maine Coons are known for their size and dense coat of fur which helps it survive harsh climates. They are large and social cats, often described as having dog-like characteristics and commonly referred to as Gentle Giants.

Maine Coon cats originated in Maine, however, their lineage is surrounded by mystery, folk tales and myths. Some of those stories include the Maine Coon cat being a hybrid with another animal species like a raccoon or a bobcat. Another story are that these cats were descendants of Viking ships cats - or Norwegian Forest cats. Another story involves Mary Antoinette, the Queen of France, loading a ship with six of her favorite Turkish Angora or Siberian cats. Although she did not make it to the United States, the cats did, where they bred with other short-haired breeds in Maine and developed into the modern breed of the Maine Coon.

Maine Coons tend to be curious, relaxed and friendly in nature. They are known for bring gentle, loving, quirky, talkative animals that love to be around people!
Maine Coons' coats are typically dense, long & thick and must be groomed / combed often.
